What’s a wedding officiant?
As your wedding officiant, my “legal duties” include receiving and witnessing the consent of the intended spouses (you and your fiancee) and ensuring the legal formalities, and hence the validity of the marriage is observed.
That’s a lot of legal-talk that says that my job is to carry out the state requirements that someone certified (a notary or ordained minister) marries you and signs off on it.
So it’s true – you can find practically anyone to serve as your wedding officiant and it will be legal. But you want more than just being married “legally,” or you wouldn’t have come here.
You want something meaningful, special,
and representative of who you are.
Imagine your guests coming to your wedding and wondering, “Where did they find this guy?”
Or worse: “I’ve heard this ceremony before.”
Your ceremony should be the most important part of your wedding day. But let’s face it, most wedding officiants just read from a script.
